About Cleveland Housing Advice Centre
Cleveland Housing Advice Centre provides an independent, free, confidential advice service to everyone.
CHAC's service is provided by a team of highly trained advisors and ensures that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and the services available to them.
We provide advice on welfare benefits which includes benefit checks, form filling and challenging benefit decisions up to and including specialist advice and representation at appeal tribunals. We also provide advice or signposting for other statutory rights such as debt and housing issues. We negotiate and liaise for clients with landlords, social and private and Local Authorities covering a wide range of issues, including homelessness, disrepair, rent arrears and illegal eviction. We can help you enter into informal debt management plans, negotiate with creditors and help you implement insolvency options like a Debt Relief Order. We can also help with energy efficency guidance.

This service is open to anyone who needs help with welfare benefits, debt, housing or energy.

You can access the face to face service by appointment. Appointments are held at our main office on Borough Road:

Other Services We Provide
If you cannot reach our main office in Middlesbrough we also have outreach sessions at various hubs around Middlesbrough (Middlesbrough residents only) or in Redcar & Cleveland we have hubs at South Bank Library, Saltburn Library and TEES Community Hub in Skelton (open to all, not just residents of Redcar & Cleveland). Charges for our service
There are no charges for any of services.
Quality Marks and Accreditations
Cleveland Housing Advice Centre has the Advice Quality Standard which is awarded to organisations that give advice to members of the public on legal issues. Organisations are audited every two years and have to demonstrate that they are accessible, effectively managed, and employ staff with the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of their clients.
Disabled Access
Our main office is disability friendly. Level access, ground floor interview rooms, and a disabiltiy friendly toilet for clients.
Home Visiting Service
Cleveland Housing Advice Centre is not usually able to offer a home visiting service but in exceptional cases will look at available options for those that cannot access our service any other way.
